Analysis

Numbers about a Tenant's records: summed, counted and compared by the values of their fields, laid out as a pivot table. Where Explorer shows the records, Analysis shows how much and how many.

For: Member, Tenant administrator

What's on this screen

  • The lenses at the top: Explorer, Navigator, Sheet and Analysis, four ways of looking at the same records; the one you are in is marked. Switch with one record chosen and the next lens opens on it: Navigator's walk starts at it, Explorer opens it chosen, and Sheet and Analysis narrow theirs to it, said as a chip in the source row (× lifts it there only; Undo brings it back).
  • Under them, the source row: the Entity analysed and how many of its records, which records are read, the analysis's name with its saving, opening and sharing, and at the row's right end changing the Entity or starting a new analysis.
  • Over the grid: the analysis's pivots as tabs, and the pivot's own buttons — undo, export, chart, design, deferring updates, when the numbers were read, refresh.
  • On the right, the fields and the four areas (Filters, Columns, Rows, Values). Drag their left edge to make them wider or narrower.
  • The line at the foot: the latest thing you did, with its history.

Build a pivot

  1. Select an Entity: choose the Entity whose records you want to analyse. An Entity with many records first asks which records to read.
  2. Tick a field in Fields. A number (marked Σ) goes to Values and is summed; anything else goes to Rows. Records, at the end of the list, counts the records themselves.
  3. To put a field somewhere else, open its ⋯ menu (Add to Filters, Add to Columns, Add to Rows, Add to Values) or drag it into the area.
  4. Read the numbers in the grid. They are read again, once, a moment after each change that changes a number.

Everything else the screen does is in The parts of this screen, below: each has help of its own.

How the numbers are computed

  • Every number, every total and Grand Total included, is computed from the records under it, never by adding up the lines above. An average of a total is the average of all its records.
  • A record with no value in a field stands under (blank), which is listed last.
  • A field marked several can hold more than one value per record. Such a record stands under each of its values, so the lines can add up to more than the total: the total counts each record once.
  • Empty values are left out of a Sum, an Average, a Max and a Min. A cell with nothing to summarise is empty, not zero.

Who can open it

Anyone who can read records in the Tenant (record.read). The fields listed are the ones you may read: a field a domain view withholds from you is not offered, and no number is computed from it. Above a Tenant there are no records to analyse; switch the console to a Tenant.

Lay out and look
  • The layout: form, subtotals and totalsHow the grid is laid out: compact, outline or tabular; where subtotals stand; what an empty cell shows.
  • Conditional formatsMark a value's cells by where each number stands among the others: bars, colours, icons or a rule.
  • ChartsA chart of what the grid shows: the same answer, drawn.
