Grouping dates, numbers and items
A date by years, quarters and months; a number in ranges; chosen items under a name.
Dates and numbers
Group… (on a date or a number field, from its menu or its name in the grid) groups a date by Years, Quarters, Months, Days, and for a date with a time Hours, Minutes and Seconds: each unit is a level of its own, opened and closed like a field.
- Days alone can go in runs (7 gives weeks); Starting at and Ending at put what is outside them under
<and>. - A number goes in ranges from a start to an end By a step.
- A date ticked into Rows or Columns is grouped by years, quarters and months to begin with.
- Ungroup gives the field its own values back.
Years, quarters and weeks follow the Tenant's calendar: its time zone, the first day of its week and the first month of its fiscal year. A fiscal year is named by the year it ends in.
Keep in mind Dates will be grouped in one time zone per Tenant, with weeks starting on Monday and the fiscal year in January unless the Tenant's Config values say otherwise (pivot.calendar.timeZone, pivot.calendar.weekStart, pivot.calendar.fiscalYearStartMonth). To change them, contact the Tenant administrator.
Chosen items
An item's menu also has Group with…: tick the items of the field to put together and give the group a name (left empty it is Group1, Group2, …).
- The groups stand as a level of their own above the field — Groups in its heading — with an item left out as its own parent; every total is still computed from the records.
- A group's menu has Rename group… and Ungroup; the field's Ungroup takes every group apart.
- The field's check-list then names the groups.
