Calculated items
An item of a field worked out of the field's other items — Pipeline as open + pending.
Making one
Calculated item… (in a Rows or Columns field's menu, and under its name in the grid) adds an item worked out of the field's other items: a Name and a formula over them — *Pipeline* as open + pending.
- An item is written by its name (in quotes when it is not one plain word), or put in from Insert an item; while the formula cannot be read, the reason stands in place of Add.
- The item stands in every line like any other, in italics, for every value field, and its menu has Change the formula… and Remove; there are no records behind it to show.
- The dialog lists the field's Item formulas, and Calculated field… lists every calculated item of the analysis beside its fields.
The totals
The subtotals and the grand total over the field include it, so they are more than the records' own — the grid says so above itself, under What the totals include, and so does an export. A total adds up the item's cells; it is not the formula worked out on the totals. A subtotal by a function of its own is of the records alone.
- An item a filter leaves out counts as nothing in the formula; a value filter and Top 10 are decided before it.
- Where a calculated item down the rows meets one across, Work out last chooses whose formula is worked out over the other's results (the solve order).
Nothing is read again.
When a field cannot have one
A field cannot have one while it is grouped, while it is also in Values, while its items overlap, or while a value is summarised by Average, StdDev, Var or Distinct count — the reason is said instead of the form.
