Calculate

Fields of related entities

Analyse an Entity with the fields of an Entity it is related to — the invoices by their customer's city.

Joining one

Related entities… (above the field list, where the Entity has relations) lists the entities this one is related to — by one relation, or by two in a row. Tick one and its fields stand in the field list under its name, to be ticked and dragged like any other; untick it and they leave the list and the pivot, which is said.

Each says what a record reaches: at most one record — the related fields then behave as the Entity's own, as a customer's city does for its invoices — or several records.

Through several records

  • A record stands under each related record's item and still counts once in every total, so the items overlap and the lines do not add up to the total: the grid says so above itself, under Where items overlap.
  • A number of the related entity is taken once for each related record in a cell and once in the grand total.
  • A filter on a related field keeps the related records it names, and the records that have one.
  • The pivot still counts the Entity's own records, and Show records lists those.
  • A pivot over several related records takes longer to read.

What cannot be joined

  • Two related entities that are each reached through several records, by paths that do not pass through each other, cannot stand in one pivot: it is not read, and the reason names the two.
  • The records chosen under Which records? are the Entity's own — a related field does not choose them.
  • A pivot joins at most four related entities.
  • Not built yet: a relation defined on a parent Entity, for the Entities under it.
