Showing a value as a share, a difference or a rank
A cell says something else than the value: a percentage of a total, a difference from another item, a running total, a rank.
The settings
Show values as… on a value says something else in each cell than the value:
- % of grand total, % of column total, % of row total;
- % of parent row total, % of parent column total and % of parent total (a field's);
- % of one item, Difference from and % difference from an item, the one before — (previous) — or after — (next);
- Running total in and % running total in a field, in the order its items are shown;
- Rank smallest to largest and Rank largest to smallest among a field's items;
- and Index.
The settings that read along a field ask for a Base field — a field of the pivot, or one unit of a grouped date — and some for a Base item. The form says what each cell will show before you apply it; the value's chip and its name in the grid say what it is shown as; No calculation gives the value back.
What a cell then shows
- A cell no record stands under shows 0 as a share of a total that has a number, as Excel does.
- A line above the base field shows nothing; a base that is not there shows the error text.
- The records behind a number, an order by a value and a value filter still read the value itself, and nothing is read again.
