Link, unlink and follow a record's relations

In Explorer you link two records, end or move a link that is no longer true, and see which records are related through others, even ones no column has loaded.

For: Member, Tenant administrator

Prerequisite

Anyone who can read the tenant's records can see a record's relations and follow them. Linking, unlinking and replacing need record.write in the tenant; without it the record view shows a note instead of Replace and Unlink.

Follow relations

Select one or more records. Explorer walks their relations on the server, up to the tenant's traversal depth, and highlights the related records in the open columns, even when the path passes through records no column has loaded. The bar at the bottom says how far the walk went; it stops at 300 records and says so when it does.

Good to know

  • An unlink that would leave a record with fewer links than its minimum is refused; link another record first. When a record must have exactly one link of a kind, use Replace to move it.
  • Values the old link carried, such as a role, stay with the old link after a replace; add them to the new link if they still apply.
  • Unlinking and replacing are refused while the tenant or the link is under a legal hold.
  • An ended or replaced link is kept as history. The record's History tab lists its links made, ended and replaced, with who did it; links made before that was recorded say “not recorded”.
