The workspace of an entity
The entity tree and each tab of an entity's workspace: what it shows and what you do there.
The workspace
| Part | What it shows and what you do |
|---|---|
| Entity tree (left) | Every entity under the entities it inherits from; one with several parents appears under each, marked ×2, ×3. Each row shows who owns it (Platform, Account or Tenant) and the domains it is used in. Search by name or key. Arrow keys move through the tree, → and ← open and close a branch, Enter opens an entity. |
| Model summary (top) | The scope you are designing, how many entities, fields, relations and domain views there are, Data types, and around the selected entity the entities it inherits from, is inherited by and is related to. Press one to open it. |
| Fields | The entity's own fields: name, data type, required or optional with how many values, owner, and where it is shown (every domain, or one domain or application). + Add field adds one; Need another type? opens the data types. |
| Card language | How Explorer presents the entity. Archetype records what kind of thing it is; descendants inherit that assignment. Own card rule is a local presentation override. Each field's card role is inferred from its name and data type and can be corrected here. Clear a correction to return to automatic inference. |
| Inherits from | Its parents, with Add parent and, on each parent, Change inheritance; the entities that inherit from it; the fields it inherits, read only, with the entity each comes from; and what an inherited field becomes here: used under a local name, renamed, mapped onto one of its own fields, or left out. |
| Relations | Every relation this entity is the source or the target of, read from its side: the other entity, how many links each side may have, the direction. Rules & settings on a row sets the direction, links per pair, which inheriting entities each side applies to, the minimum and maximum links, the discriminator fields and each side's selected entities. |
| Rules | Conditions every record of the entity must meet: a field, a test (is, is not, is one of) and a value, with what happens when a record does not (an error stops the save; a warning or info is noted) and the message the person sees. Every record write checks them before anything is written, and the refusal names the rule. |
| Computed fields | A field whose value is calculated: text joined from fields, a sum, difference, product or quotient of two values, or a count or sum over a relation's related records. Virtual is calculated each time it is read; materialized is stored when it is recomputed. A computed field cannot read itself, and a chain of computed fields that loops or runs too deep is refused. |
| Reference records | Only on an entity whose role is Reference: the values others point at (countries, industries, course levels). At the platform you publish them here — Add a reference record (a stable key and a value per field) or Publish many from a sheet (a CSV file or an Excel workbook with a key column and a column per field; one bad row stops the whole sheet) — and Change or Remove them. Every tenant that reads the entity reads them, read only, here and in Explorer; no tenant can add, change or remove them. |
| Domain views | How each domain sees the entity. The link opens the Workflow & EntityView Designer on this entity. |
| Settings | Name, description, role and valid time, and the lifecycle state (active, deprecated, read only, retired), saved when chosen. |
The address keeps the selected entity (?entity=…), so a refresh, a saved change or a shared link opens the same entity, and Back returns to the one before.
